Sited as the first true boutique hotel on the Andaman islands, Jalakara is a beautiful bolt hole from which to explore this remote collection of islands. Jalakara is an intimate villa style hotel set in the centre of Havelock Island on the side of a hillock with spectacular views across the tropical rain-forest down to the ocean. It is located within easy reach of the harbour, market and stunning No. 7 Beach. Whilst not located on the beach, free shuttles are provided to Barefoot resort where you can use their facilities and beach. For the more adventurous a short half an hour trek through the forest with also reward you with a white sandy beach and azure sea.

The hotel is made up of seven light and airy whitewashed rooms, with polished concrete and stylish furnishing. Each room and suite has a unique feel and look ranging from the Sky Room located on the roof of the main villa, a teak pavilion with surrounding glass windows on three sides, to the secluded Garden room and romantic Tower room with its own private roof garden and 360 panoramic view of the lush jungle. The private villa offers lots of privacy and lofty space, with its very own copper plunge pool, double hammock and yoga deck.

The hotel has a beautiful ozone infinity pool and can arrange massage, yoga and badminton at the hotel or day excursions island hopping, snorkeling, diving or just lolling on the beach with your very own picnic.

Despite its remote location Jalakara privates a paired back, home from home feel with its food and beverage at the heart of it. The menus and cocktail list is directly overseen by the British owners and the dinner menu has a wonderful focus on the tropical abundance of the surroundings islands and spectacular seafood. The inclusive breakfast include, fresh baked breads, made to order Indian and continental cooked food and the freshest tropical fruit.

Reaching the Andaman islands you will need to fly via mainland India to the capital city of Port Blair. There are daily flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai. From there you can connect with the private ferries, although it is well worth a stay on Port Blair where you can discover the rich history of these fascinating, far flung islands.
