One of India’s largest inland lakes, Vembanad Lake, is home to Coconut Lagoon, Kumarakom. This property is set in the picturesque backwater canals and is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife and tropical coconut groves. The only way to arrive is in style, on the private boat which provides a great opportunity for some bird watching and to see the property from the waterside.

The distinctive architecture of Coconut Lagoon celebrates the local traditions and the villas, of the resort are built from remnants of ancient Kerala homes called tharavads. Some of these mansions are over 150 years old and were carefully dismantled and transported here in sections from houses that had fallen into disrepair. Here you will find that the hotel respects the rich but delicate ecosphere along with the vibrant culture of Kuttanad region.

Cocconut Lagoon has three categories of rooms but each room is unique and no two rooms have been decorated the same.  Each room has been carefully designed with artifacts and local antiques.   The categories are Lake front villa with private pool, Heritage Mansion and Heritage Bungalow. The private pool villas all have spacious living areas and separate bedrooms. The heritage mansions have an upper story while the Bungalows are suited to all, as they are all ground level.  Each room is set within the lush garden landscape.

Kerala is known for it seafood and Coconut lagoon is an excellent place to sample the traditional keralan delights.   A must try is the indigenous Peral spot fish curry of the backwaters or tapioca with crushed chillis.  At the property you are spoilt for choice with three dinning experiences to choose from, all unique in their own way.

For those who want to do more then watch the world go by in the lake side pool, you can choose from a variety of experiences.  For the nature lovers, the area is teaming with exotic bird life and the serene butterfly garden is home to 54 different species.  You can also take advantage of being lakeside by enjoying a canoe ride or sunset cruise or even enjoy a visit to the floating Tea Shop.  Throughout your stay you can visit the well-established Ayurveda Centre where you can truly rejuvenate your mind, mind and soul with a tailored spa programme.
