The Amankora lodge in Paro is easily accessed by the international airport, just a 30-minute drive away.  Paro is an excellent base, especially considering that it is home to around 155 temples and monasteries, some dating back to the 14th century.  Amankora provides the ideal retreat following days of sighting and trekking the nearby mountain passes.  The lodge is nestled among glistening conifers and located 2250 meters above sea-level.  Amankora offers 24-suites, each suite providing its own traditional bukhari wood-burning stove.  The location of the lodge makes for the perfect start or ending to any Bhutan journey, and is surrounded by some of Bhutan’s holiest religious monuments.

Amankora Paro’s location makes for a perfect ascent to Bhutan’s famous Taktshang Goemba, Tiger’s Nest Monastery.  This precarious national treasure, is said to be the birth place of Buddism in Bhutan.  By foot, this is a four-hour hike there and back or a only slightly speedier ascent on donkey back.  This is a must see for all visitors.

After a long days trek one can escape the aches and pains by being pampered at the exclusive Amankora Paro Spa. Spa treatments include traditional plant-based therapies to engulf all senses, including Bhutanese oil massages.
