The Aman Resorts
Combining luxury and peaceful pilgramages in Bhutan, Amankora leads travellers gently through the deep, green valleys of the landlocked Kingdom of Bhutan.
With locations in Paro, Thimphu, Gangtey, Bumthang and Punakha, Amankora's five lodge locations throughout the pristine Himalayan landscapes, combine the luxury and convenience of well-appointed private residences whilst providing unrivaled insight into the unique culture and exquisite surroundings.
Across the five lodges, the signature Amankora suites combine contemporary design with rustic materials, creating a sleek yet convivial atmosphere. Spacious and airy open-plan bedrooms and living rooms have king size beds, window seats and traditional wood burners. All ensuite bathrooms, are clad in terrazzo and centre around a large free-standing bathtub.
Each of the Lodges provides an array of Bhutanese, Western and Indian dishes, with a focus on local ingredients such as Yak meat, fresh honey and local vegetables from the verdant surroundings. With each cozy lodge intimate dining experiences can be created throughout the various picture perfect settings.
Amankora Punakha is reached by a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu River, just east of the Dochu La Pass and just north of the resplendent Punakha Dzong. This lodge incorporates a beautiful traditional Bhutanese farmhouse and overlooks the orange orchard, Mo Chhu River and the rice terraces below, making it possibly the most traditional of the Amankora portfolio. Centred around a pretty courtyard with a Chinese cherry tree, there are two modern extensions providing the sumptuous 8 open plan wooden clad suites. Along with the tea pavilion, there is a spa with a yoga studio, two treatment rooms and a steam room.
This property is just a ten minute drive from one of the country’s most beautiful 17th century Punakha Dzong (fortress). There are also several near by day treks to be done through this very pretty countryside.
