A Jungle Journey
Ranthambore, Agra, Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench
Much of remote and uninhabited Madhya Pradesh, is covered in dense forest where tigers reside in the verdant National Parks, whose very grasslands, savannahs and forests inspired Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’. This is the very heart of India.
This region holds the largest wild population of the mighty Bengal Tiger and there are many wildlife parks to discover such as Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park, Satpura National Park, Panna and Pench National Park.
Each of the parks provides an array of accommodation. Speak to one of our specialists to find out more about the luxury holidays to Madhya Pradesh with its wealth of boutique lodges, independent camps, tree house hotels – such as Tree House Hideaway, Samode Safari, Jamtara and Sarai by Toria along with the luxury Taj Safari portfolio.
This archetypal Kipling country is teeming with wildlife, including the elusive Bengal Tiger, Leopard, wild boar, sloth bear, wild dog, monkey and many varieties of deer. The dramatic diversity of bird life is also prevalent here, from colourful peacocks and kingfishers to the mighty eagles and menacing vultures.
Alongside the diversity of the wildlife is the beautiful flora of the Indian Jungle, which offers dense forests, bamboo thickets, large swathes of savannah land, mesmerising waterfall, and flower filled valleys.
In order to reach the parks, you can access them by flying to either Khajuraho in the north of the state or Nagpur airport in the southern reaches. Combining several of the parks into one itinerary will ensure a true ‘jungle book’ journey.
Although Madyha Pradesh accounts for one third of India’s forests, beyond the National Parks the state is home to the ancient cave paintings in Bhimbetka, the exquisite temples of Khajuraho, the finely restored Buddhist stupa in Sanchi, the riverside tombs at Orchha and the magical deserted Moghul fort of Mandu. Most of these sites see relatively little tourism and as such are even more rewarding for the intrepid traveller willing to explore the heartland of India. End your luxury holiday of Madhya Pradesh at the mighty Ahilya Fort perched majestically high above the sacred river Narmada.
